News Flash "50 Sports Confirmed for Nelson" - as of 27 March 2011
The
South Island Masters Games is an annual festival of sport which is held each year and will be held in Nelson in 2011. It is the first time the Nelson/Tasman region has hosted the Masters Games and it promises to be an absolute cracker with up to 3,000 participants expected.
The Games will be based at Saxton Field – a sporting complex to rival any in the country. It caters for a huge range of sports.
Running for a week it is a chance for veteran athletes at all levels and abilities to compete in more than 30 different sporting codes.
Most sports have both competitive and social grades so you don't have to be a top performer or even a current competitor to enter. There are no qualification criteria -. athletes don’t need to be nominated or to represent a club – they represent themselves.
Athletes can be an absolute beginner lining up against an ex-All Black or a novice against a world record holder! Anyone can enter – as long as they are old enough. Most sports take entries from age 30 or 35 and upwards. All people with disabilities are encouraged to enter events at the games where applicable and event organiser will endeavour to cater to your needs.
