Port Nelson Haven Ahoy - Museum

Make sure you check out this amazing new exhibition at the Nelson Provincial Museum, corner Hardy and Trafalgar Streets!

The exhibition runs from 4th October until 17th April 2011.

Port Nelson Haven Ahoy! is a major exhibition related to early maritime migration to the Colony of Nelson in the early 1840s. The exhibition is set out like a ship and there are opportunities for you to participate in the 'voyage'

The exhibition Port Nelson, Haven Ahoy! is based on transcripts of diaries and logbooks held in the archives at the Research Facility at Isel Park.

They tell us about daily life on board early migrant ships. These are real thoughts of real people undertaking amazing voyages. The voyages themselves often involved incredible hardship and there are stories associated with some voyages that are so harrowing it is hard to believe the human spirit is so resilient.
